Bombay High Court on Monday turned down the petition filed by script writers Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan to stall the release of Ram Charan's 'Zanjeer' which is set to release on September 6th.
Apparently, Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan approached the court demanding monetary compensation to the tune of Rs 6 crore from the producers of 'Zanjeer 2.0' claiming they had copyrights over scripts and dialogues of the 1973 path-breaking movie 'Zanjeer'. The writers went on to say they have given the permission for Prakash Mehra (original Zanjeer producer) to produce the film only once and a remake can't be made without paying them the copyrights fee.
While pronouncing the judgement, Justice SJ Kathawala cited two grounds for rejecting the plea seeking stall of release. While one was the delay made by Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan in issuing legal notices to the Zanjeer producers, the other one is for demanding monetary compensation. Today's judgement came as a big relief for the makers of 'Zanjeer'.
Meanwhile, the case filed by Businessman Prince Tuli seeking the removal of 'Zanjeer' scenes in which his bike was used without prior permission will be coming up for hearing on this Wednesday.
